EDUCATION: The Online Journalist And Multimedia Skills In Today's World

Hi guys. It's yours sincerely Peres. I know it's been a while since you last heard from me. Good news I'm back. Well, based on a very special request, I am doing a this post about online journalism. Kindly read as it would be very conversational.

WHAT IS ONLINE JOURNALISM?

In the simplest of terms, it means journalism practiced online. Online journalism is a process that has been in used for quite some years by newspapers industries, journalists, and so on - to report facts produced and distributed through the internet. 

These days, the world is moving away from the simple everyday buying of newspapers and subscribing to some junk publications. These days we have all the news made available to us online across different platform.

Those who make these news materials available online are called Online Journalists. For the record, It has been noticed that people no longer buy the printed out newspapers except they want to keep it for reference purposes but internet users see online news as a readily available and less costly network.

The internet has made news much more interesting because of the interactivity and the kind of multimedia embedded in the news. By multimedia, I mean videos, audios, pictures and so on, that are used to enhance the news. The advent of Online Journalism has brought about expansion to the regular studio news room and also created a seemingly booming financial future for the online journalist. Well, that is for us to discuss in another episode of this blog session.

The most important point here to make is that the internet has challenged traditional news industries in several ways, that these offline media feel threatened as it might lose its contents to the online media.

As I mentioned earlier on, Online journalism refers to news content produced and distributed on the internet platform. I also love to see online journalism as the practice of journalism as obtainable online. We all know that Journalism is any non-fiction or documentary narrative that reports or analyzes facts and events firmly rooted in time (either topical or historical) which are selected and arranged by reporters, writers, and editors to tell a story from a particular point of view. 

Journalism has traditionally been published in print, presented on film, and broadcast on television and radio. "Online" includes many venues. 

Features Of Online Journalism

Real time: News can be published in real time. Online Journalists can provide updating breaking news and events as they happen.

Multimedia: Online Journalists can include images, music, sound, video etc.

Interactivity: Online Journalists can add hyperlinks to their writings. These links relate their writings to other contents related to their subjects. Readers or participants can respond instantly to materials published by online journalists in the form of email, comment, and threaded discussion.

MULTI MEDIA

According to the Wikipedia, multimedia could be referred to as content that uses a combination of different content forms such as text, audio, images, animations, video and interactive content. Multimedia can be recorded and played, displayed, interacted with or accessed by information content processing devices, such as computerized and electronic devices, but can also be part of a live performance. 

Multimedia devices are electronic media devices used to store and experience multimedia content. Multimedia is distinguished from mixed media in fine art; for example, by including audio it has a broader scope. In the early years of multimedia the term "rich media" was synonymous with interactive multimedia, and "hypermedia" was an application of multimedia.

1. Video Production and Skill
2. Photo editing skill
3. Great ability to write and report original stories
4. Blogging
